Visions is the autobiography of a courageous and resilient woman, Janie Bess, but it is more than that It is, also, the story of her son who lives with tremendous challenges. Janis's vivid style of writing makes the characters in her family come alive and catches our interest as she relives the light and dark of her childhood and early adulthood. But when her son, David, who must cope with the double handicap of being profoundly deaf and later totally blind, enters the book it becomes much more than an interesting personal story and rises to the level of an inspiration, perhaps a mission. I cannot imagine anyone without a greater resolve to overcome them.
Thank you, Janie. Your book is unforgettable. Norma King Green

The Dramatic unforgettable struggles about a young couple with a deaf/blind infant in the military during the 1960's, when a society on a whole simply ignored anyone with disabilities. What a powerful, spiritual, uplifting story with an impressive conclusion, as told by the mother.

Dear Janie P. Bess,
I just want to say Hi and that I love you! This is Cynthia Denise Spencer--Thomasyne’s cousin. (You gave me the name “Green Lady”) I enjoy your company every time I am around you. You had called me a few months back to see if I had read your book yet… Actually, I had not started reading it at that time. I didn’t have your phone number which leaves me to writing you. Back to your book--Oh my God! When I started, I could not stop reading. It kept me interested the whole way along. I cried with you, I laughed with you; I even took judgment on those doctors with you! Your book really inspired me. You are a special and strong woman. I admire your courage. I just love Li’l David as though I’ve known him all my life. And—you have a wonderful family. Looking to hear from you soon! Love Always, Cynthia D. Spencer California.

Your book is so vivid! I can see your family and they are A Mess!. Your sisters kept me laughing about their antics. especially in one Chapter That is when both Sydney and Earlie turn out the lights and lock your boyfriend David in the living room and they beat him upside his head with beer bottles. I felt like I was right there in the room with them. That was so funny to me! I am now reading Chapter 15 when you finally marry David and you're on your way to a military base.in Washington State. I take my book wherever I go. Everybody wants my copy, I tell them to get a copy of their own. It's a must-read!

Hello
Mrs. Bess my name is Charita Adkins. I met you at Mount
Calvary and you gave me a copy of your book Visions. I
really enjoyed reading the book your son is blessed to
have parents who love him so much and wanted the very
best for him. David is a remarkable person and you all
are blessed to have him in your lives he is an
inspiration. May God continue to show favor in your
life.
Dear Janie,
You are a blessing sent from God and you are touching lives each day. You have a drive for life a desire to bring happiness and joy to each soul you meet and you have excelled. When I read your book "Vision" I could hardly put it down. It spoke to me as the word pictures jumped off the pages. I felt as if I were drawn into your life and that I was there walking with you and feeling and being part of what was happening. Your dedication and determination to do what was needed to provide for your family and make a difference in the process was awe inspiring. I told you that I have a 4 year old granddaughter (LeAnn) that was born legally blind because she was born with albinism. I know the struggle that my daughter has had to get the necessary help and services for her and still does each day and I can only imagine your frustration, grief and anger trying to allow your son David the independence to become all God has in store for him. Thank you for your bravery in opening your heart and telling this very needed story of hope not despair, of courage not cowardice, of determination not defeat, and of love that made your "Vision" come true. God Bless you as you share with others in person and through the written word. I can only tell you I am so very blessed and grateful that God has given me the chance to know you and share in your shadow of hope. I am on pins and needles waiting for your next book and I know in my heart that God will not disappoint you or me with His leading as you continue to be faithful. One last thing comes to mind and that is: "Keep On Keepin' On." Love and Prayers,
Carol Lundahl
Hi Ms. Bess,
I just had to let you know that I read your book, probably a year ago and had never let you know that I thought it was most pleasurable. I hope you are receiving all that you expected from its release. God Bless |

Janie P. Bess, author of VISIONS, has
written a remarkable book about the Bess family. At
times you become so overwhelmed with emotions that you
can't help but cry; and then in the next few moments,
you'll be laughing aloud. Divorce, single parenting,
step parents, sibling rivalries and a special needs
child are some of the tribulations that are encountered.
But through the grace of God, we watch as the Bess
family overcomes. VISIONS is a must read by all! |
