Janie Bess graduated from Berkeley High School then attended Merritt Business College, Solano Community College, and U.C. Berkeley Extension classes.  She is listed in the 2000 edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers.  She energetically encourages all to "Try God, Trust Him!  He makes dreams, and then makes them happen!"  She taught advanced hairstyling at Paris Beauty College in Concord, CA.  Janie initiated a Fairfield, CA. chapter for the International Women's Writers Guild (IWWG) before taking up the task of founding the Northern California Writers Circle.  She worked incessantly to setup and co-ordinate A Rainbow of Writers Conference.  A First in Solano County!  Janie actively seeks out and hosts local authors for book signings, seminars and readings.  She has also worked on the publicity committee of the (WIN-WIN) William Saroyan Conference Fresno, CA March 2003.  She is the President and Founder of Writers Resource Center.  She recognized that local aspiring writers did not have accessibility to services and resources necessary to publish their works.  She wanted to establish more than just a critique group- she envisioned a full-service collective of dedicated writers who could share their talents, knowledge and resources with their fellow writers. 

Janie is a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Suisun, CA.  Her many activities include: Solano Community Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Soropotimist International of Solano County.  Her past activities include: Conductress of Rising Sun OES Chapter #29.  Misawa A.B. Japan.  At Clark Air Base Philippines, she sang with Voices of Clark Gospel Choir and served as First Black President of the Enlisted Spouses Club.  Janie served as Secretary of the Stanislaus County Parents Deaf Association at Castle Air Force Base, CA.  She appeared on BETV.org Gospel Search.com on January 7, 2006 Channel 28 online. 

Through her strong faith in God, Janie wrote Visions, an autobiography about her trials, triumphs and travels as an Air Force wife with three children.  She openly brags about her oldest son David Jr. a deaf-blind, who leaves an indelible impression on everyone he meets.  Her daughter Terri, son Tony, and their adopted teen sons Darnell and Avory have all made her proud.  Janie resides in Northern California with David, her husband of 40 years.  She spends her spare time spoiling her handsome grandsons, Dominiq' and little Tony Jr."  She bowls on a league with husband and daughter-in law Leea, and plays with her Australian Shepherd Jet when she is not writing.
